10-4-2014 - Fairy/Elven Queen
My mom gave me an boy's size M white t-shirt a few days ago. I set it in my pile... I mean, my fabric stash, and just got back to it. I was looking at it, and wondered how it'd look as a dress for my American Girl dolls. So I tried it on a doll, and liked it, but obviously it needed some help. So I removed the sleeves, marked it with a dressmakers pencil on one side, and then used that as a guide to cut both sides. After cutting, I sewed up the holes. I forgot to take a before picture, but here's the after picture:
Oh yeah, I also sewed in a waist seam, hoping to shorten it a bit, but it didn't make a difference. That's okay, it works out in the end, you'll see.
In my experience, white fabric normally is see-through, to some extent. This shirt is no exception. It's not as bad as it could be, but it's still needing a slip or needing to be a slip. So, after looking through the fabric I had nearby, I picked up some and got to work. Using the same pattern as the cut up tshirt, I made a shirt to go over. After the shirt was made, I realized that the leftover fabric would be great as an accessory. Here's the result:
