All Dolled Up had a contest, she needed help deciding on a Kit of the Month for October. I, and several others, sent in ideas. Instead of choosing one of our ideas, All Dolled Up took an idea that each of us had requested: Versatility. Apparently, we all wanted something that could be made different ways and with different fabrics. So, she made a pattern called Let's Pretend, and said that she'd have another contest. Whoever wanted to enter needed to make a costume out of that pattern, or some combination of that pattern. I printed off the pattern, pulled down a model, and got busy.
Here is part of the outfit. Well, a partial picture of most of the outfit. I used a blue silky fabric from a human-sized formal dress for the dress and cloak. The cloak was a piece of fabric that I finished the edges on and added a snap for a closure. No pattern. The dress is a lengthened version of the shirt from the Let's Pretend pattern. Also, I didn't add elastic (which the instructions called for) on the sleeves. The vest and bag were made with upholstery fabric (I assume, it was a scrap in my fabric collection), lined with white floral fabric.
I also made a slip. It's not noticeable in the pictures, but the blue silky dress is a bit... see-through.. so the slip helps. The slip was also made with the Let's Pretend shirt pattern, and was modified to be more like a wrap dress or robe. Since the pattern was meant to be an off shoulder number, I braided embroidery floss to make up the difference in the shoulders. I also braided a belt/sash for the waist.
Add a circlet, a bit of lace for a sash, and it's done. And in case anyone is wondering why the bead on her circlet seems to be changing color in each picture, that's because it is. It's a mood bead, which apparently changes color based on temperature. It was chilly outside when I took the outside pictures, and the bead kept turning black, so I'd warm it up with my fingers and try again. Fortunately, I got one picture of it with the bluish-green color I wanted. Unfortunately, that was the only outdoor picture I got with the right color...
